It’s More Than A Mission . . .It’s A Mindset

Sign me up for ARM! for the Association of Reproductive Managers.  Membership in the ARM is free for ASRM Members.  If you'd like to become a member of the ARM, tell us.

The Association of Reproductive Managers (ARM), a Professional Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), is committed to advancing the art and science of fertility practice management through leadership, research, and education.  ARM’s mission is to create a forum through which fertility program business managers and physicians can form nationwide interrelationships to keep abreast of critical fertility practice management issues; to provide educational programs designed to help advanced assisted reproductive technology (ART) programs improve the operations of their practices from both internal and external standpoints including planning, marketing, and financial functions; to solve management problems including the identification and correction of deficiencies; and to provide guidelines for enhancement of the organization’s capabilities.

A Message from a Past Chair

The Association of Reproductive Managers (ARM) exists to be a resource available to infertility practice managers and all others in the field who have an interest in the operation of infertility centers. REI is a unique specialty, and ARM is alone in specifically addressing those unique issues.

Expanding the Influence of ARM
ARM is engaging in a number of activities that will benefit the entire infertility community. Some of these are:

  • Educational Opportunities: ARM has presented regional educational meetings for the past five years and is expanding the available educational opportunities at the ASRM Annual Meeting, including sponsoring Interactive Sessions and Symposia during the Scientific Meeting.

  • Research: ARM has sponsored published research and is continuing work on studies about “Working with Staff in the Infertility Center” and “Strategic Planning in the Infertility Center.”

  • Convenient/Economical Resources: The ARM Executive Committee, recognizing the shrinking resources that are allocated to education, is examining new, more cost-effective alternatives, such as web-based seminars and telephone conference calls that will be available to the entire ASRM community.

ARM’s Philosophy
Remarkable scientific advances are occurring in the REI field. ARM seeks to facilitate those advances by developing resources to promote the art and science of infertility practice management.

WHY SHOULD YOU BECOME A MEMBER OF ARM?

HERE’S SOME WORDS OF WISDOM FROM OFFICERS OF ASRM

“Is the ASRM a strong society”, asks Michael Soules, M.D., President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in his President’s Message in the Winter 2001 issue of ASRM News—“the answer is both yes and no”. It is strong in terms of its meetings and programs, staff and structure, finances, and its growing international ties, states Soules, but its one area of weakness is its current membership. ASRM has gone beyond being simply a fertility society to a Society that represents all aspects of reproductive medicine, Dr. Soules explains, and important areas of reproductive medicine have not been adequately represented on a national level.

The late J. Benjamin Younger, M.D., former Executive Director of ASRM, was a staunch advocate for ARM and was integral to establishing ARM as a Professional Group because he recognized not only the importance, but also the necessity for today’s reproductive physicians to have management skills as well as medical skills. “I hope that physicians take a personal interest in ARM and its offerings," said Younger, "for both themselves and their administrators.”

ARM is still a small organization, but that’s the good news! That means that if you actively contribute, you will be seen and your voice will be heard—you personally can make a difference in the quality, credibility, and visibility of the fertility management profession.

Becoming an active member of ARM requires application for membership to ASRM and a designation to join the ARM Professional Group. As a dual member of ASRM and ARM, you’ll benefit from access to the most in-depth and up-to-date information about this continually changing specialized medical discipline. A few of the many services and membership benefits include subscriptions to ASRM’s and ARM’s publications, reduced fees at meetings and postgraduate courses, and multiple opportunities for interaction with others in the field with mutual or interrelated interests. Additionally, both ASRM and ARM have comprehensive and interactive web sites with members-only areas. The cost of annual membership to ASRM for allied health professionals is $125.00 and includes you among more than 9,000 reproductive health care professionals from more than 100 countries.

Sign me up for ARM! for the Association of Reproductive Managers.  Membership in the ARM is free for ASRM Members.  If you'd like to become a member of the ARM, tell us.
