Today, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association in partnership with EMD Serono, launched The Fertility Scorecard, an index to measure and score each state on “fertility friendliness.” The state-by-state index was created by evaluating for each state the number of RESOLVE support groups, the legislative climate, the insurance climate and the number of SART accredited fertility clinics.  The Fertility Scorecard can be found at: http://familybuilding.resolve.org/fertility-scorecard/

ASRM and SART released the following press statement:

ASRM and SART React to RESOLVE’s “Fertility Scorecard”

Statement attributable to Charles Coddington, MD, President-Elect, Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART)

“We applaud RESOLVE for bringing attention to the very serious plight of those who suffer from the disease of infertility. This scorecard will be an important tool for state policy makers to use to assess how their state is doing in helping their citizens who suffer from infertility.”

Statement attributable to Richard Reindollar, MD, President-Elect, American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM)

“Getting a diagnosis of infertility can be emotionally devastating. To find out their health insurance does not cover it, or that policy makers are actively seeking to block their treatments, makes it even more difficult for our patients. Excellent infertility care is available throughout the country. These grades do not reflect the quality of the clinical care in the state. Rather, they focus on the social, economic and political environment around treatment of infertility in each of the states.”
