Meet Navid Esfandiari, PhD, ELD, HCLD, Clinical Professor and the IVF and Andrology Laboratories Director at the University of Vermont Medical Center. For nearly three decades, Dr. Navid Esfandiari has been a dedicated member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), a testament to his unwavering commitment to advancing the field.
He received his DVM degree and completed his residency/PhD in Reproductive Immunology at Medical Sciences University of Tehran, Iran followed by two years research fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr Esfandiari is a hands-on clinical embryologist, has published over 100 papers and book chapters and his current research is focusing on improving IVF treatment outcome. Dr Esfandiari serves in ASRM Patient Education and SART Quality Assurance Committees. He is an Associate Editor for Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology and is on editorial boards of Fertility and Sterility Reports, Reproductive Sciences, JARG, and IJFS journals.
Dr. Esfandiari initially joined ASRM to foster connections with colleagues worldwide, seeking to learn from their diverse clinical practices and research endeavors. He deeply values the numerous resources ASRM provides, including its esteemed journals, research opportunities, and the comprehensive UpToDate educational guidelines and courses. Dr. Esfandiari has actively contributed to the ASRM community through his leadership roles, having served as the Chair of the Reproductive Immunology Special Interest Group (RISIG) and currently leading the Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology (RMSCB) Special Interest Group. His commitment extends to serving on both the SART Quality Assurance Committee and the Patient Education Committee.
Dr. Esfandiari credits his ASRM membership as being significantly beneficial to his career. The networking opportunities with fellow clinicians and laboratory professionals, both in clinical and research settings, have been invaluable. These collaborations with renowned experts have led to numerous publications, multiple prestigious ASRM prize paper awards, and recognition through ASRM Star awards. Looking to the future, Dr. Esfandiari's professional goals remain centered on training the next generation of embryologists and educating medical students, Ob-Gyn residents, and REI fellows. He is also deeply invested in contributing to emerging technologies such as automation and artificial intelligence, with the ultimate aim of achieving advancements in fertility care and improving IVF success rates for patients. Dr. Esfandiari's enduring engagement with ASRM underscores his vital role in shaping the future of reproductive medicine.
