ASRM Member Spotlight: Sarah Holley, PhD
Date: March 21, 2024
Author: ASRM
Meet Sarah Holley, PhD, Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UCSF and Professor of Psychology at SFSU.
Dr. Holley is an active member of the Mental Health Professional Group (MHPH) and LGBTQSIG at ASRM. She has found learning opportunities and connections to be the most valuable part of her ASRM membership. Currently, she is working on the MHPG Scientific Development Committee to support members in advancing knowledge of research methods, sharing recent findings, and fostering the development of new research ideas.
It is hard to imagine the field of reproductive medicine without the guidance, leadership, and educational opportunities provided by ASRM. At a time when reproductive rights and the practice of reproductive medicine are being challenged in a number of unprecedented ways, the importance of ASRM has never been more clear.
She finds that ASRM provides a primary path for growth and development for anyone working in the field of reproductive medicine by bringing all the disciplines together under one roof. For new members, she recommends you take advantage of the ways ASRM offers to connect with others in your discipline and get involved. An easy place to begin is by joining special interest groups or professional groups in your discipline. These will help you create a strong community and grow in your work. She suggests being proactive and looking for new opportunities within the organization: mentorships, events, learning programs, and even specialized committees. For anyone, she recommends making a career plan: know where you’re going and how you will get there---remain open to possibilities and change.
Sarah Holley, PhD, is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at San Francisco State University and a Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Holley is also a staff psychologist at the UCSF Center for Reproductive Health, where she provides fertility counseling services and clinical supervision. Dr. Holley received her doctoral degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at UCSF. Dr. Holley’s research focuses on risk factors for psychological distress during fertility treatment and ways to improve delivery of treatment services for LGBTQIA+ families.
