The 2024 SRS-SREI Surgical Boot Camp took place at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH, from May 30 to June 1, 2024. Co-directed by Dr. Rebecca Flyckt and Dr. Zaraq Khan, the boot camp hosted 30 fellows who refined their laparoscopy and hysteroscopy skills.

The first day kicked off  with a warm welcome and introduction by Directors Dr. Rebecca Flyckt and Dr. Zaraq Khan. The session then proceeded with a series of insightful lectures covering various aspects of reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) surgery.

Key presentations included:
  • "Business of Medicine: Billing and Coding for REI Surgery" by Dr. Mindy Christianson.
  • "Managing Early-Stage Endometriosis in an Era of ART" by Dr. Anthony Imudia.
  • "When-How-Why Removal of DIE Helps Achieve Pregnancy" by Dr. Zaraq Khan.
  • "Ovarian Transposition and Uterine Fixation" by Dr. Rebecca Flyckt.
  • "Minimally Invasive Management of Fibroids" by Dr. Joseph Findley.

The day concluded with an overview of lab stations and objectives, led by various faculty members, followed by a welcome reception sponsored by Pinnacle Fertility.

The second day commenced with a breakfast for faculty and fellows. The Surgical Scholars Track Overview, led by Dr. John Petrozza and Dr. Mindy Christianson, set the stage for the day.

Participants then transitioned to hands-on simulation stations, where they engaged in practical exercises to hone their surgical skills. The sessions covered microsurgery, laparoscopy, robotics, laparoscopic suturing, and hysteroscopy.

After a morning of simulations, fellows and faculty gathered for lunch, which included a supporter presentation by Inception, LLC, followed by a special session on surgical coaching and mentorship by Dr. Rebecca Flyckt and Dr. Zaraq Khan.

The afternoon featured additional hands-on simulations and a series of didactic sessions covering topics such as:
  • "Avoiding Patient Positioning and Trocar Placement Pitfalls" by Dr. Paul Lin.
  • "Establishing an Office Hysteroscopy Practice" by Dr. Linnea Goodman.
  • "Maximizing Fertility Through Hysteroscopy" by Dr. J. Preston Parry.
The day concluded with a Punch Bowl Social, providing attendees with a chance to relax and network.

The final day began with breakfast, followed by another round of hands-on laboratory simulations. Fellows participated in the "Surgical Olympics," a competitive yet educational experience designed to test and improve their surgical techniques.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony and closing statements. The session featured a lively game of Jeopardy, adding a fun twist to the educational program.

The 2024 SRS-SREI Surgical Boot Camp was a resounding success, providing fellows with invaluable knowledge and hands-on experience to enhance their surgical skills in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
