Advocacy in Action: January 2025
Date: January 28, 2025
Author: ASRM
Welcome to ASRM’s Advocacy in Action, where we give an overview of what our Government Affairs team has been working on, summarize relevant federal and state legislation, and highlight the advocacy and outreach efforts of our members. We are so thankful for the advocacy of our members; please get in touch with the Office of Public Affairs at publicaffairs@asrm.org for more information on ways to get involved.
- ASRM’s Office of Public Affairs hosted a virtual town hall briefing members on what’s in store for reproductive medicine following the 2024 elections and during the 2025 legislative sessions. Watch the recording here.
- Doctors for Fertility (DFF), a nonprofit focused on advocacy around reproductive medicine, has donated $100,000 to ASRM’s Center for Policy and Leadership (CPL)! Learn more about the Doctors for Fertility Advocacy Training Fund here.
- Registration for RESOLVE’s Virtual Federal Advocacy Day in partnership with ASRM is officially open! Learn more and sign up here.
- Last week, the House passed H.R. 21, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, just a day after its companion bill, S. 6, was rejected by the Senate. While “Born-Alive” legislation has been reintroduced in every Congress since 2015, we are disappointed this harmful and medically inaccurate bill criminalizing reproductive care was identified as a priority for an early vote in the new Congress. We thank our incredible members for using our Action Alert system to ask their representatives to vote NO on its passage. Your voice is essential to the legislative process!
- The second Action Alert challenge is underway! Are you looking to up your advocacy in the new year? Joining is as easy as responding to the Action Alerts we share via email and socials. Learn more here.
- ASRM member and Director-at-Large Dr. Eve Feinberg spoke with Illinois Public Media about access to IVF in Illinois and beyond. Read the article here.
- Jessie Losch has been named ASRM’s Director of Government Affairs. She will begin her new role within the organization on February 1. Click here to read more.
If you would like to support us in our fight against restrictive reproductive legislation, please visit our Advocacy in Action Fund.
ASRM’s first Congressional scorecard is here! Click here to see where your representatives stand on legislation around IVF.
